This is the second time that Sanderstead Singers have sung at Chester Cathedral.
The music for the 2018 Chester Services ventures into the contemporary style of church music with compositions from two contemporary composers, Philip Stopford and Jonathan Dave.
Philip Stopford and Jonathan Dove have made a notable contribution to church music over the past 50 years. They have also both composed a significant repertoire of music, composing in many musical genre. Stopford, coincidentally, was an Organ Scholar at Chester Cathedral in 2002.

The setting for the Saturday Evensong, by Stopford -'Belfast Canticles', was commissioned in 2014.
The anthem for the Eucarist on the Sunday, by Stopford, 'Do not be afraid', was commissioned in 2010 for the celebration of a child's baptism.
The Evensong anthem on the Sunday, by Dove, 'Seek him that maketh the Seven Stars', was commissioned by the Royal Academy and first performed in 1995.
